The Challenge

The customer, a country club in El Cerrito, was facing high peak demand charges and inefficient energy usage and sought a solution to maximize savings while minimizing electric bill costs. They turned to Yotta, a renewable energy company in Austin, Texas,to facilitate the installation of a DC-coupled energy storage system (ESS) to pair with the site’s PV system. After partnering with a Walnut Creek-based solar and storage developer to rapidly procure and deploy Yotta’s SolarLEAF ESS, Yotta sought an energy management system that could effectively manage peak demand limits and capture savings through TOU arbitrage. Given the close relationship between Yotta and Energy Toolbase, as well as Energy Toolbase’s proven success at delivering savings in the California market, they decided to partner once again to develop a solution integrating Yotta’s SolarLEAF ESS with ETB Controller with Acumen AI™ to help meet the facility’s goals.

The Solution

Yotta Energy and Energy Toolbase swiftly deployed a solution that integrated ETB Controller and Acumen AI into Yotta’s SolarLEAF ESS, enabling peak shaving and energy arbitrage to reduce monthly electricity costs. The 15 kW/36 kWh SolarLEAF ESS was installed alongside a 182-kW solar array to support efficient charging and discharging cycles. Configured for arbitrage and peak shaving, ETB Controller and Acumen AI dynamically optimize dispatch in real-time to maximize system performance and customer savings. The advanced controls were configured to charge the battery during low-cost periods and discharge it during high-cost periods, thereby reducing peak demand. Customers also have access to the ETB Monitor platform, which provides real-time visibility into system performance and savings. This project highlights the ongoing partnership between Yotta and Energy Toolbase, formally established in August 2024, to deliver innovative storage solutions tailored to customer needs.
