The Challenge
Sprocket Power, a Katonah, New York–based project developer, partnered with a large car dealership in New York State. The dealership operates in an area with a historically constrained grid and aging infrastructure, requiring utility upgrades to maintain reliability. The dealership wanted to install solar, storage, and EV chargers while also participating in grid service demand response programs, including Con Edison’s Commercial System Relief Program (ConEd CSRP) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Distribution Load Relief Program (NYSERDA DLRP). Their goal was to offset upgrade costs, improve energy efficiency, and support the grid. Sprocket Power needed a battery and EMS partner capable of enabling program participation and providing
resiliency to power critical on-site loads, such as computer servers.
The Solution
Sprocket Power modeled the project’s economics in ETB Developer and was familiar with ETB’s battery integrations with leading ESS hardware manufacturers. ETB’s product expertise helped them identify the best solution for this complex project. Sprocket installed a Socomec SUNSYS HES L unit, paired with ETB Controller and a 52-kW solar system, primarily for Demand Charge Management. ETB Controller enables participation in the ConEd CSRP and NYSERDA DRLP demand response programs via scheduled commands in ETB Monitor and can switch programs post-install for added flexibility. This marks Energy Toolbase’s first fully commissioned system with controlled islanding in New York.
