An Overview of DLRP
The DLRP is a Con Edison program in New York designed to provide emergency load relief for local grid issues, which are becoming increasingly common. It’s one of Con Edison’s key reliability-focused DR programs and is distinct from broader peak-shaving programs, such as the Commercial System Relief Program. A C&I customer is eligible to enroll in the program if they can reduce their load by at least 50 kW during contingency events and have an interval meter installed.
The program works when the utility calls for load reduction during events that would push the local distribution grid to a condition yellow status, often during periods of high heat and power demand. These event triggers are sent to participating systems up to two hours in advance, and participants are required to reduce their load for the next four hours following these events.
How are Customers Paid?
Compensation is determined based on a participating system’s network classification (determined by location), committed load reduction capability, and participation option.
